The Age of WOW! (2): More Facts about WOW! Factor

Continuing my previous article on “The Age of Wow!”, here are recent research facts about the importance of WOW! factor. According to the article in the Journal of Marketing Research (The Impact of Marketing-Induced Versus Word of Mouth Customer Acquisition on Customer Equity Growth, Julian Villanueva, Shijin Yoo, and Dominique M. Hassens, Journal of Marketing Research, Vol XLV , Feb 2008):

“Each customer acquired through marketing is expected to bring app. 1.77 new customers throughout his or her lifetime, whereas a customer acquired through word of mouth marketing is expected to bring 3.64 customers. ” (p. 55)

“Customers acquired through marketing channels focus more on “trials” (i.e. short term effects), whereas customers acquired through word of mouth tend to provide the firm with more “repeats” (i.e., long-term effects) (p. 55)
